Britney Spears isn't dating her manny

There's been speculation that Britney Spears has started dating her bodyguard/manny, Daimon Shippen, but a source close to them says their relationship is purely professional. People reports:
"He's her bodyguard and manny," says a source familiar with Shippen's employment. "They're not dating." Shippen, a California native described by the source as "funny, but on the quiet side," is "tickled" by the attention from the media. "But he really wants to focus on his job: taking care of the kids and of her," says the source.

Apparently this is the same guy who saved Sean Preston's life when Britney almost dropped him about a year ago. Although considering this is Britney Spears, saving Sean Preston's life probably isn't that big a deal. The 7-Eleven guy who found him in the hot dog case has saved his life. As has the cabbie who noticed him on the hood of the car. I saved his life twice this morning on my way to get coffee.

Britney's Got A Brand New Dog

After a false alarm last week, Britney actually did purchase herself a new puppy yesterday. Brilliant. It looks like during the same midriff baring shopping venture she learned about the wonderous world of tennis rackets. She looks so befuddled by it. But I thought she was a pro? About the puppy, apparently she's named it London and she was happy to show it off for the paparazzi on her way out clubbing at Ritual for the night. The little pup was probably scared of the flash bulbs, but hopefully he'll get used to it pretty quickly. Too bad Bit Bit isn't around anymore to show London the ropes.

The Perks Of Being Paris

Apparently Paris may have been living the good life even before she got out of jail - police are about to investigate whether or not she got special treatment while she was in prison. The privileges aren't exactly what'd you think, though - supposedly Paris may have enjoyed a new prison uniform, access to a cordless phone, and had her mail hand delivered. The phone sounds like it might have been a big deal, but we're surprised Paris Hilton didn't sweet talk more perks. As seen from the pictures above, perky Paris continues to enjoy herself since being released from jail including having dinner all dolled up with Nicky at Koi. She is also hitting up all her favorite hot spots and indulging in her old habits. For more pics of Paris and Nicky in LA, just.

'New' al Qaeda tape may contain old clip of bin Laden

(CNN) -- Osama bin Laden stresses the importance of martyrdom for Muslim causes in a videotape that purportedly contains a 50-second message from the al Qaeda leader.

The 40-minute videotape, whose audio was being translated from Arabic by CNN, was intercepted before it was to appear on several Islamist Web sites known for carrying statements from al Qaeda and other radical groups.

The videotape, titled "A Special Surprise from As-Sahab. Heaven's Breeze Part I," was made in the last four weeks, but the clips appear to be old, said Octavia Nasr, CNN's senior editor for Arab affairs. There is no indication of where it was shot, and CNN cannot verify its authenticity.

"We're aware of the tape," a government official, who didn't want to be identified, told CNN. The official agreed that the tape's content is not necessarily new.

"There has not been, over time, a one-to-one correlation between release of a tape and any significant operation or attack afterward," the official added.

Bin Laden, with a bodyguard standing directly behind him, is looking down slightly in the video, appearing to address an audience below, which is unseen. Video Watch the al Qaeda leader »

He says that the Prophet Mohammed wanted to be a martyr, and that is a worthy goal for every Muslim.

"So be alert, be wise and think. What is this status that the best of mankind wished for himself? He wished to be a martyr. He himself said, 'By him in whose hands my life is! I would love to attack and be martyred, then attack again and be martyred, then attack again and be martyred.'

"So this whole broad life is summarized by him who was inspired by God, the Lord of the heavens and earth, praised and exalted is he. This glorious prophet who was inspired by God summarized this entire life by these words. He wished upon himself this status. Happy is the one who was chosen by God as a martyr."

Bin Laden was one of several men appearing and speaking on the tape. They include Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq who was killed in a U.S. airstrike June 7, 2006.

The video was branded by As-Sahab Media, the company that traditionally handles al Qaeda communications to the public.

The environment shown is similar to that on releases made before the September 11, 2001, terror attacks, in which bin Laden is seen in the company of some of the hijackers, Nasr said.

Some of the backdrops also resemble those shown in videos when the U.S. attacks against the Taliban in Afghanistan began not long after the 9/11 attacks, she added.

The last time a recording of bin Laden was made public it was an audiotape, with an Arabic transcript, released on June 30, 2006.

For several weeks, radical Islamist Web sites have been announcing that there would be "good news soon from Sheikh Osama bin Laden."

Newspaper gives away Prince CDs

Around three million copies of Prince's new album, Planet Earth, have been given away with the Mail On Sunday.

The promotion is believed to be worth about £250,000 to the musician, whose hits include Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret and Money Don't Matter 2Night.

But the giveaway has angered retailers, who called it "an insult" to high street record stores.

It also dealt a blow to Prince's record label, Sony BMG, which has shelved plans to release the album in the UK.

'Speculation business'

Planet Earth has had largely positive reviews, with The Times saying it was "too good to be so lightly sold".

The US pop star also plans to give away copies to fans attending one of his 21 concerts at London's O2 arena next month.

Prince at the Super bowl
Prince has sold more than 80m records worldwide
That means it will reach many more listeners than the artist's last album, 3121, which only sold 80,000 copies in the UK.

"It's direct marketing and I don't have to be in the speculation business of the record industry which is going through a lot of tumultuous times right now," said the Minneapolis musician when asked why he was giving the CD away.

"Prince has done this because he makes most of his money these days as a performing artist," the Mail on Sunday's editor, Peter Wright, told BBC Five Live.

"He's got a fantastic series of concerts coming up at the O2 Dome and this is a way of telling people what he's doing."

Wright confirmed that the newspaper had paid Prince for the licence to produce the CD, and had paid to press and distribute it, but hoped to make money by selling extra copies of the paper and extra advertising.

'Beggars belief'

Nonetheless, the deal has sent shockwaves through the record industry, with the Entertainment Retailers Association being particularly vocal about their dissatisfaction.

Paul Quirk, co-chairman of the organisation, said the decision "beggars belief".

"The Artist formerly known as Prince should know that with behaviour like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores," said Mr Quirk, referring to a period in the 1990s when Prince famously stopped using his name in favour of a symbol.

However, music chain HMV has decided to stock Sunday's Mail, even though chief executive Simon Fox previously called the giveaway "absolutely nuts".

Pakistan militants end truce deal

Pro-Taleban militants in Pakistan's North Waziristan region say they have ended their truce with the government.

In a statement issued in Miranshah, the main town, the militants accused the government of breaking the agreement.

It came as Pakistan deployed more troops in the area fearing "holy war" after the storming of the militant Red Mosque last week that left 102 dead.

At least 45 Pakistanis, including soldiers and police recruits, have died in three attacks in the last two days.

Last September's truce ended two years of clashes and was aimed at stopping cross-border attacks into Afghanistan.

Growing tension

"We are ending the agreement today," the Taleban Shura or Council said in pamphlets distributed in Miranshah, the capital of North Waziristan.

map

The council leaders released the statement Sunday amid growing tension in the area.

In a second consecutive day of violence on Sunday, at least 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the Swat area of North West Frontier Province. Another 40 had been injured in Sunday's attack near the town of Matta, local police said.

In the city of Dera Ismail Khan, in the same province, at least 11 people died in a blast at a police recruitment centre. Dozens were wounded.

The area is well-known as a stronghold of pro-Taleban militants, they said.

On Saturday, a suicide attack on an army convoy near the village of Daznary, about 50km (30 miles) north of Miranshah, left about 30 injured in addition to the 24 killed.

There are fears the attacks could be linked to the storming of the Red Mosque.

Crackdown

The 102 dead there included 11 soldiers and an as yet unknown number of extremists and their hostages.

The government has sent thousands of new troops to the north-west fearing there could be a new "holy war" in revenge for the siege.

Many of the militants in the Red Mosque (Lal Masjid) complex were thought to have come from the north-west.

President Pervez Musharraf last week vowed to root out extremists "from every corner of the country".
